The Famous Green Smoothie & Green Soups (aka Blended Salads)

Blended vegetables & fruit is one of the best ways to absorb nutrients from food. Digestion is quick and easy on your body. It also allows you to consume higher quantities of greens which are very important in a raw diet. Greens have tons of protein and more importantly provide the essential amino acids required to assimilate protein. They have high levels of vital minerals, chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamins, etc. They also increase alkalinity.

The most recognized Green Smoothie is prepared in minutes by blending 60% fruit (bananas, berries, oranges, apples), 40% green leafy vegetables (spinach, romaine lettuce) and water. You can keep it as simple as that or adjust it to your tastes and needs. Focus should be more on a higher content of greens & vegetables than sweet fruit. Though if you do eat a lot of fruit, try to include greens to balance the high sugar content. Many greens (such as spinach & baby greens) blend undetectable. The bitter greens taste better in soups and salads once you learn to flavor them to your liking, if you don’t enjoy them alone.

Sweet: coconut water or oil, cinnamon, vanilla, agave, dates, nuts or nut butter, avocado, cacao or carob powder, mesquite powder, goji berries/powder, camu-camu powder, other dried fruit

Savory: avocado, cilantro, parsley, garlic, scallion, kelp powder/granules, cayenne pepper, onions, olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, sea salt, nuts and seeds.

Other Benefits/Tips:

Bananas are usually a main staple in a sweet smoothie because they’re inexpensive, flavorful and have a high fiber and potassium content. They’re also available year-round.

One of the quickest raw meals you can make.

Most packaged frozen fruit isn’t raw-inquire with the manufacturer on the process and additives used or make your own. Refrigerating bananas retains the flavor better. Frozen isn’t as good as fresh or refrigerated.

It’s a good idea to rotate the greens you use.

While it’s better to consume smoothies and soups immediately, it’s more convenient to make a batch of soup that lasts for a couple of days minimum or to freeze them. Glass containers are good for this. For a portable meal, use non-toxic insulated bottles or store in a cooler.

Smoothies and soups are a great way to consume healthy foods that you normally don’t enjoy the taste of like certain greens, vegetables, and any food supplements such as green powders, maca, etc.

Smoothies & Soups are best made in a high powered blender.
